Heart
There's a reason the puffy origami heart is such a classic: it looks far fancier than it is. With a few clever folds, a flat square of paper turns into a soft, rounded heart with a little hollow space inside — the kind of thing that makes a handmade card feel genuinely special.
This one sits at an easy intermediate level. The moves aren't hard, but crisp, confident creases are the secret to getting that satisfying plump shape. And because the center is hollow, you can tuck in a tiny bell, a marble, or a folded note before you close it up — a small surprise hidden inside a small gift. Grab a sheet, take your time with the creases, and you'll have a keepsake heart in just a few minutes.
How to Fold
STEP 1. Place the paper with the white side facing up and fold it in half into a square.

STEP 2. Fold it in half again.

STEP 3. It is now one-quarter of the original size.

STEP 4. Once opened, fold it vertically toward the center line.

STEP 5. After the vertical fold, also fold it horizontally toward the center.

STEP 6. Both the top and bottom have now been folded.

STEP 7. Open it back up one step, then fold the bottom edge up to the top crease.

STEP 8. The lower section is folded.

STEP 9. Fold the top section down to the bottom line in the same way.

STEP 10. When the dotted-line creases appear, fold the lower-right corner back along the second line from the top, as shown in the figure.

STEP 11. It looks like this.

STEP 12. Open it up again, then fold the left side back in the same way as in step 10. Turn it over and fold the other side the same way.

STEP 13. Creases like gray dotted lines will appear. Fold the four corners toward the center along the brown dotted lines.

STEP 14. The corners are folded.

STEP 15. Put your finger into the lower-left triangle and open it out.

STEP 16. After opening, turn it over. The upper-right side is now open; open the other side in the same way.

STEP 17. It is now open top and bottom. Fold the open triangle in half.

STEP 18. It is folded in half. If the right side is also open, shape it back into a triangle. Once you have done this, fold it in half.

STEP 19. It is now folded in half.

STEP 20. Insert your finger from the left side and open the section marked with a circle (○) from step 18, then lay it over the folded triangle.

STEP 21. Do the same on the right side, covering it with the circled section. This completes the lower part of the heart.

STEP 22. Fold the top corners inward.

STEP 23. Push in at the arrow and tuck it in along the crease.

STEP 24. Once one side is done, fold the other side in the same way.

STEP 25. Finally, the middle of the heart. Push it in from above along the crease, just like step 23.

STEP 26. Push the center in firmly until it reaches the crease for a clean finish.

STEP 27. Hold it from the left and right and shape it.

STEP 28. A puffy heart is complete.

Points When Folding
The trick to a neat result is to make each crease firm and sharp.
Because the inside is hollow, you can also tuck in small items such as bells, marbles, or a key chain.
It also makes a lovely little gift.
