Cats are the ultimate quick fold: two minutes, one square of paper, and suddenly there is a small silhouette sitting on your desk that everyone recognises. If you have ever needed a craft that works with impatient kids, a nearly empty paper stash, or a card that needs one last charm, this is the one to keep in your pocket.

The whole model is four folds plus a face, so there is nothing here to get lost in. The head comes from a single corner, the body and tail appear when you lift the two side corners, and the personality arrives entirely in the last step: draw on whiskers, eyes and a nose, and your plain paper cat turns into a character. Try black paper for Halloween, or patterned scraps for a whole windowsill of them.

STEP 1.

Fold the paper in half.

STEP 2.

Fold the top corner down as shown in the photo.

STEP 3.

Fold the left and right corners up as shown in the photo.

STEP 4.

Turn the paper over.

Finished!

Once the face is drawn, your origami cat is complete.
